What Is the Charging Speed of Tesla Model 3 Center Console USB-C? - ChargerLAB Compatibility 100
Introduction
Speaking of the charging performance of Tesla EVs, both the Model Y and Model 3 can charge at Tesla's Supercharger network, which offers fast and convenient charging across the country. As for the included USB-C port, we conducted a compatibility 100 test for the more expensive version - Model Y - about a month ago, and it successfully passed our test.
And recently, we also presented a compatibility 100 test video for the Tesla model 3. Now, we will provide a detailed textual description, including more data, to give everyone a clearer understanding of the charging compatibility of this EV.
First, the USB-C of the Tesla Model 3 center console supports PD3.0 and DCP charging protocol. And it has only two fixed PDOs of 5V3A and 9V3A.
Charging Compatibility Test
ChargerLAB conducted a comprehensive test on the compatibility of the USB-C port in the center console of the Tesla Model 3, evaluating its performance with a selection of 100 charging devices. These devices include smartphones, game consoles, wearable devices, tablets, and laptops, aiming to cover the majority of users' charging scenarios.
Mobile Phones
Let's take a look at the compatibility of mobile phones. Data from 79 tested models are summarized in the table, and we can see that all the tested models are compatible with 9V and 5V PDO.
By creating a bar chart, we can visually see the charging power of each phone. It's evident that the iPhone 14 series ranks at the top, followed by the Red Magic series, with most maintaining a charging power of 20W or higher. PD compatibility is quite impressive, followed by the OPPO series, where most models fall within the 17W range. Older models generally perform in the 10-15W range, except for the iQOO series, which shows some abnormal cases with charging power lower than 5W.

Game Consoles & Wearable Devices
Next, let's examine the performance of game consoles and wearable devices. From the chart, we can observe that game consoles trigger the 9V PDO, while wearable devices trigger the 5V.
The bar chart shows that the Steam Deck has the highest power output among game consoles, reaching 23.22W, followed by the Nintendo Switch at 13.23W. The AYANEO Air had some compatibility issues. As for wearable devices, although they can charge, their power is relatively low.

Tablets
Moving on to tablets, the test data is compiled in a table, indicating that most models trigger the 9V PDO, except for the Redmi Pad, which trigger the 5V, resulting in lower current.
The bar chart reveals that the fourth-generation iPad Pro 11 has the highest charging power at 25.33W. Interestingly, the charging power of the five tested iPad models is quite similar, with the Samsung Tab S8 at 13.59W. The Redmi Pad remains the lowest at 2.32W, showing a lower charging power compared to other compatible devices.

Summary of ChargerLAB
The Tesla Model 3's interior design combines advanced technology, premium materials, and spaciousness, offering a unique driving experience. In our testing, the center console's USB-C port supported PD 27 fast charging.
In terms of charging compatibility, it is generally friendly towards iPhone models but not as compatible with some older models. Charging power for game consoles and wearable devices is relatively low, and compatibility issues have been observed. For tablets, except for the Redmi Pad, most models achieve a charging power of around 25W. As for laptops, apart from the HP ProBook 450 G10, other models perform similarly, with charging powers around 25W. Overall, the compatibility is moderate due to the limitations of the USB-C port specifications, which may result in some devices like laptops and game consoles facing compatibility issues. Taking all the test data into account, the Tesla Model 3 did not pass ChargerLAB Compatibility 100 test. We hope future models will see improvements in this aspect.
