The Prices of the Apple New 35W Dual USB-C Charger Vary by Region
Apple kicked off its WWDC22 on June 6, current local time, to present the latest software and technology. In addition to releasing a variety of system software, it also announced a range of blockbuster hardware, including the M2 processor, MacBook Air 2022, MacBook Pro 13 2022 and the new 35W dual USB-C port compact power adapter.
Two 35W Dual USB-C Chargers
It's unusual for Apple to introduce the new 35W dual USB-C port compact power adapter at WWDC22, which has higher power than the previous 30W.
The biggest advantage is that it has two USB-C output ports, which allows you to charge your MacBook and iPhone at the same time when you go out.
As early as April, 2022, ChargerLAB reported Apple's 35W dual USB-C port compact power adapter, which finally showed up later.
The new 35W dual USB-C port compact power adapter unveiled at the WWDC22 is now available on the official US online Apple Store for $59. Besides, the official US online Apple Store also features another 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter not mentioned at the conference, which is consistent with the previous Apple power adapter family's design, with folding, removable and replaceable prongs. The price is the same, at $59.
- The New 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter
The 35W dual USB-C port compact power adapter is different from the previous Apple power adapter's design. Still, it has a compact-side-prongs design with a smooth outer and two USB-C output ports on the side, so the cable comes out naturally down when used on a wall plug. This version is also the one unveiled at the conference.
The power adapter is recessed on both sides for easy hand-holding, and the folding prongs make going out on business and travel more portable. However, from a structural point of view, the prongs are not removable, which is rare in Apple's previous USB-C power adapters with larger power than 20W.
We found the model of the charger is A2571 (Salcomp), which supports input of 100-240V ~ 1.0A 50-60Hz. It also supports four fixed PDOs of 20V1.75A / 15V2.33A / 9V3A / 5V3A. Both ports can support up to 35W respectively and can support USB PD protocol.
- The tranditional 35W dual USB-C charger
Another version of the 35W dual USB-C port power adapter adopts Apple's usual design. It uses a square appearance, Left/Right ultrasonic die assembly, prongs with Apple's unique removable and replaceable prongs.
Since it adopts Apple's usual design and removable prongs, it is possible to compare the 30W single-port USB-C power adapter to the 35W dual USB-C port power adapter based on the isometric scaling of the picture on the Apple Store to get the volume. As you can see from the side view, the 35W dual USB-C port power adapter is identical in size to the 30W one.
The amount of ports is the most significant difference between the two fronts. The size and dimensions of the two are identical so you can use the three dimensions of the Apple 30W power adapter manuscript reviewed by ChargerLAB as a reference. Apple's 35W dual USB-C port power adapter is estimated to be 56 X 56 X 28.5 mm (2.2 X 2.2 X 1.1 inches), with a volume of 89.39cm³ and a power density of 0.39W/cm³.
Above is the chart of Apple's power adapter family of all time. It is easy to find that 29W - 140W all adopt the same design. The chart also shows the power iteration and change of the product.
Then, have a look at the back. All Apple power adapters larger than 20W use Apple's unique removable prongs design.
The Apple power adapters's removable prongs are designed with a common "8" shape jack for the power supply and a metal round nail to hold the plug in place, and the nail can be used for grounding. Thanks to the removable design, the power adapters can be sold in different countries with different plugs, or users can purchase different replacement prongs to enable cross-region business and travel.
Apple also has its own removable plug with a 3-core cable for users to choose from. It can replace removable prongs, allowing the power adapter to transform into a desktop charger, and connects with the round nail to enable the grounding function. Then, ChargerLAB has rummaged through Apple Stores worldwide to see what versions of 35W charger are available for sale in different countries and what the price is.
Price on UK Apple Store
Uk online Apple Store has only one version of the 35W charger hitting the shelf, priced at £69, or about $84.
The version sold on the Uk online Apple Store is with the UK standard plug replacement. Three-pin plug is huge in size, and the end of the live wire and neutral wire is wrapped in plastic. Although the UK standard plug is large, the feel and solidity of plugging and unplugging, we think it is the best of all types.
Price on German Apple Store
The 35W charger on German online Apple Store is priced at 65 Euros, approximately $68.
The version sold on the German online Apple Store is equipped with European standard prongs replacement. The plug is with a two-legged cylindrical plastic-wrapping end. And a section of the extension is out for deeper into the socket interior, used to consolidate the insertion structure to avoid the prongs being single-loaded, but also better to eliminate the risk of electric shock.
Price on Australia Apple Store
The Australia online Apple Store has only one version of the 35W hitting the shelf at a price of 89 AUD, or about $62.
The Australian version has prongs for the Australian standard, and the form is two tilted prongs.
