Southchip, the company famous for its high-performance buck-boost power converters which entered supply chains of Samsung and Huawei, demonstrated its latest buck-booster ICs, USB-PD protocol chips, and wireless charging solutions at 2019 (Autumn) USB PD & Type-C Asia Expo in Shenzhen, China.

Karen Deng, Vice President of System Applications at Southchip, gave us a little tour to the company's product portfolio. Southship introduced the third-generation buck-boost architecture charger and DC-DC chips this year, further enriching the buck-boost architecture. The third-generation buck-boost chargers (SC8905 and SC8905) and DC-DC switching regulators (SC8720, SC8721, SC8101, SC8329, and SC8328) are enabling the full integration of power tubes with ultra-low resistance load and up to 98% conversion efficiency for 30W power applications, which can significantly reduce heat dissipation. Furthermore, the I2C version and the Standalone version are also available.

USB-PD protocol chips are relatively new in Southchip's product lines. However, based on the expertise in power management IC design and deep understanding of high-voltage and high-speed semiconductor processes, the brand new SC2001 USB-PD solution successfully passed the USB-IF PD 3.0 certification. The SC2001 supports up to five output ports and integrates multiple fast charge protocols such as PD2.0, PD3.0, PPS, BC1.2, AFC, FCP, SCP, VOOC, and SUPER VOOC, with a rated voltage of 30V and multiple built-in protection, including OVP, OCP, UVP, and SCP to ensure safe operation of the system. At the same time, the SC2001 integrates a gate driver, a 10-bit ADC, and a high-precision amplifier to minimize the number of components. It is suitable for applications including chargers, multi-port chargers, car chargers, power banks, and other cases.
