Review of IKEA SJÖMÄRKE Wireless Charger
Introduction
Previously, ChargerLAB tested various magnetic wireless chargers for iPhone from different manufacturers. However, wireless charging is not exclusive to Apple, and other major companies have also launched smartphones and charging stands that support wireless charging. ChargerLAB received a wireless charging product from IKEA - SJÖMÄRKE Wireless Charger. The charging method is different from ordinary wireless charging. Let's take a look at how it works in practice.
Product Introduction
The packaging box has a pure white background with the wireless charging pad accessory printed on the upper left, including a wireless charger, a power adapter, a cross-shaped adhesive, and four strip adhesives. In the middle is the outline of the wireless charging pad, and the IKEA brand name is in the lower right corner. The design is very simple.
The back of the packaging box shows a schematic diagram of the use of the wireless charging pad and the desktop width it is suitable for.
After taking out all the items in the package, in addition to the wireless charging pad, there is also a power adapter, double-sided tapes, and product manual as promised on the packaging.
The IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger is made of ABS and alloy materials with a fine-grain frosted process on the shell. The whole body feels comfortable and smooth, and the built-in charging cable can prevent loss and other situations.
The cross-shaped recessed area on the front of the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger is the wireless charging area, which can charge phones and earphones. There is a schematic on the left side.
In addition, there is an LED indicator for the work status set at the junction of the cable on the side. When charging normally, it will be in a white steady state.
The back of the wireless charging pad has a metal cover module with relevant specs info engraved, and the shell outside the wireless charging area adopts a "concentric circle" design to assist in heat dissipation during charging.
Model is E2018SJOMARKE, it can supports input of 24V0.7A 16.8W, and the output is 5W Max.
The cable junction adopts thickened injection molding design, which is more resistant to bending.
The white magic tie is used to bind and fix the cable.
The cable's charging end is made of black PC material, and it is a specially made cylindrical port.
In addition, the included charger plug is similar to the British design.
There are relevant specs info marks on the side of the charger.
The model is ICPSW24-19-1, it can supports input of 100-240V~ 50/60Hz, 0.4A, and the output is 24V DC 0.8A Max 19W Max.
The charger adopts a DC output port.
The length of the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger is about 173mm (6.81 inches).
The width is about 86mm (3.39 inches).
And the height is about 15mm (0.61 inches).
The weight of the wireless charging pad is about 287g (10.12 oz).
And the total weight is about 383g (13.51 oz).
Charging Test
Since the included charger adopts a special DC port, we cannot use any of our tester for the test. We will use the power meter instead.
After connecting the power supply, when the device is not charging, the power consumption of the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger is 0.68W as measured by the power meter.
According to the diagram, we learned that the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger requires a distance of 8-22mm from the device that supports wireless charging. In our test, we found that it cannot charge a phone directly in contact with the charger.
When charged with an iPhone 14 Pro Max, the power meter shows a reading of 15.95W.
When charged with a Samsung Galaxy S21, the power meter shows a reading of 12.02W.
When charged with a Huawei P40 Pro, the power meter shows a reading of 12.64W.
Finally, when charged with AirPods Pro, the power meter shows a reading of 8.96W.
Usage Scenario
In order to test the usage distance requirement of the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger, we chose different distances for testing.
The selected foam thickness is about 16.74mm (0.66 inches).
When the phone that supports wireless charging is placed directly on the wireless charging pad, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could not be charged wirelessly.
After adding foam, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could be charged wirelessly normally.
When multiple layers of foam are added, the iPhone 14 Pro Max could not be charged wirelessly, indicating that it exceeded the wireless power supply range of the charging pad.
Summary of ChargerLAB
In summary, the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger is made of ABS and metal materials with fine-grain frosted processing on the shell, and has a charging indicator light. It uses an integrated charging cable, which eliminates concerns about cable loss or other usage issues. However, the special power supply port increases maintenance costs.
Overall, based on our practical tests, the IKEA SJÖMÄRKE wireless charger can be used on a flat table with a thickness of 8-22mm, and can achieve "invisible" charging function by attaching it to the bottom of the desk with the included adhesive. However, there are many conditions that need to be met in order to achieve wireless charging, and users should choose according to their own conditions.
