Review of Anker 3-in-1 MagSafe Charging Cube (Y1811)
Introduction
Hi, guys. Welcome back to today's ChargerLAB. About half a year ago, Anker released a 3-in-1 wireless charger for Apple users, we did a report back then, you can click here to have a look. It's so compact, like a normal square charger, but can wirelessly charge three devices at once without any cables. It adopts Apple's official wireless charging module and is now sold on Apple's official website.
And recently, we finally got our hands on this amazing product, so let's introduce this elegant charging cube to you.
Product Appearance
The packaging box adopts a classic Anker Blue design with MFW and MFM certification labels on the corner.
You can see how it works at the side of the box.
Some specs info are on the back, we will get to that later.
Except for the charging cube itself, it also contains a USB-C cable, a charger and some papers.
The first impression when we got this cube is small and exquisite. It is hard to imagine that it integrates three different charging modules.
The outer case feels smooth and can resist fingerprints. And the upper and lower parts are connected using a mirror-finish hinge, with the "ANKER" logo engraved on the bottom.
You can put your iPhone on the top to be charged instantly.
A circle of small bumps can increase friction and prevent the phone from falling off.
The wireless charging panel for your Apple Watch is hidden on the side and supports fast charging for compatible models.
Just press the button slightly and it'll pop out, just like a SIM card slot.
You can adjust its angle up or down to get the best viewing experience, and the adjustment range can be up to 60 degrees.
The charging area of your AirPods is under the top panel for iPhone. Keep in mind that this area don't have the magnetic affect found on the top. Additionally, for a successful charging experience, make sure to position the earbuds casing with the charging port facing inward and align it at the center of the charger.
The LED indicator and input USB-C port are on the back. After connecting to the power supply, it'll light up in white, but it‘s always on only when the AirPods is charging.
All specs info are printed at the bottom.
Model is Y1811. The lowest input power is 30W, you can also use other chargers beyond 30W to charge it. As for the output power, the iPhone can be up to 15W, while the Apple Watch and AirPods only reach 5W. Since part of the energy will be converted into heat when wireless charging your devices, the output power will be less than the input power.
When we bring the phone close to the charging area, it will automatically attracted to the charging panel.
You can place it vertically or horizontally, which is very suitable for the StandBy mode of iOS 17.
Next, let's take a look at the included charger. It adopts a black matte surface with "ANKER" printed on the front.
All the specs info are on the bottom, close to the foldable plug. Model is ASPD9i-P30W20. It can support input of 100-240V~ 50/60Hz 1.0A. As for the PDO, we will get to that later with the POWER-Z KM003C.
It's smaller than the Appke 29W Power Adapter.
And the included cable is a dual USB-C one.
Length is about 1.5M (4' 11.05'').
The length of the charger is about 50mm (1.97 inches).
The width is about 45mm (1.77 inches).
And the height is 29mm (1.14 inches). So the power density is 0.45W/cm³.
As for the charging cube, the length is about 60mm (2.36 inches).
The width is also about 60mm (2.36 inches).
And the height is about 63mm (2.48 inches).
And the weight is about 407g (14.36 oz), roughly equivalent to the weight of two iPhone 11 combined.
This is how it looks like when compare to an Apple 140W Power Adapter.
Usage Scenario
The peak power of the input power can reach 17-18W when charging iPhone, excluding the power consumed in the conversion, this is an ideal speed for MagSafe charging.
The charging power of AirPods is about 2-3W.
And so is the Apple Watch, and due to the limited heat dissipation area, the fluctuation is obvious.
The total power for three devices can reach 30W.
Protocol Test
The ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C shows the USB-C port of the included charger supports DCP, MTK and PD3.0 protocol.
And it has five fixed PDOs of 5V3A, 9V3A, 12V2.5A, 15V2A and 20V1.5A.
Full Charging Test
Next, let's try to test how long it will take to fully charge the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Here is the charging curve made by the PC software of KM003C.
The voltage is maintained at 12V. It maintains at peak power of 14W from 0 to 1 hour and 33 minutes. Then, it gradually drops to 12W. After 2 hours and 11 minutes, the power continues to decrease to almost zero, but the final part lasts almost two hours, the total charging time is about 4 hours and 27 mins.
From this chart, we can check the charging speed more intuitively. It's very fast at the beginning, but then gradually slows down after 80%. The charging time for the first 80% and the last 20% is almost the same. This is noticeably slower than wired charging.
Temperature Test
When testing the full charging curve, we put this cube into a 25°C (77℉) thermotank and got its surface temperature after 30 mins.
The highest temperature of this cube is 36.6°C (97.88 ℉), which is lower than your body temperature, and hottest part is the circle of the charging coil.
Summary of ChargerLAB
