At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Chinese smartphone brand Infinix made a bold move by unveiling a solar-powered concept phone. The device is designed to harness clean, renewable energy through integrated solar panels, showcasing a potential leap forward in sustainable technology for the mobile industry. Although still in the early stages, the concept phone drew attention for its innovative use of solar power to recharge the device’s battery.

The Infinix solar-powered phone features a unique design with solar panels embedded on the back of the device, along with a solar-charging case. This combination allows the phone to capture solar energy, making it partially self-sufficient in terms of power. While the phone can still be charged using traditional methods, the solar panels provide an additional layer of energy support, particularly in areas with abundant sunlight.

The technology behind this concept phone utilizes advanced solar cells known as perovskite, which are thinner, lighter, and more efficient than conventional silicon-based solar panels. These cells are capable of charging the device at a rate of up to 2W, providing users with a sustainable power solution that can supplement conventional charging. The phone also features a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system, ensuring optimal energy capture and preventing overheating.

Infinix’s solar-powered phone is part of the company’s broader initiative to push for greener, more sustainable mobile solutions. The concept phone highlights the growing demand for eco-friendly technology in the consumer electronics market. While still a concept, Infinix’s solar-powered phone could become a significant step toward the future of environmentally-conscious mobile devices, offering users an alternative charging method that could reduce reliance on traditional power sources.
