Introduction
Recently, we got our hands on the new Apple 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the Apple M4 Pro chip. It features a 14-core CPU (10 performance cores + 4 efficiency cores) and a 20-core GPU. In terms of ports, it comes with an SDXC card slot, HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone jack, MagSafe 3 port, and three Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) ports.

When it comes to battery and charging, the laptop has a built-in 100Wh battery, offering up to 24 hours of video playback. Both the MagSafe 3 port and USB-C ports support up to 140W fast charging. In this test, we will examine its compatibility with original Apple chargers, third-party chargers, and power banks.
Charging Compatibility Test
Original Chargers

First, let’s test the Apple 140W charger included in the box, using the original USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. The measured output is 27.88V 5A 139.27W, which is very close to the maximum power.

Switching to the 87W Apple charger, the power output drops to 20.25V 4.19A 84.9W.

After summarizing the data from different Apple chargers, it’s no surprise that their compatibility is excellent, significantly enhancing the fast-charging experience for users.

When we visualize the charging data in a bar chart, we can see that the actual output closely matches the charger's rated power. The highest recorded power is 139W from the included 140W charger. Overall, the compatibility with original Apple chargers is outstanding.
Third-party Chargers
Sometimes, when you forget your charger, you may have to use a third-party charger. Let’s now check how well third-party chargers work with the MacBook Pro using the original charging cable.

Using the UGREEN 160W charger, the measured power output is 28.15V 4.8A 134.82W.

Summarizing the data from various third-party chargers, we found that power output remained stable, with most chargers triggering 20V voltage levels. Some PD3.1-supported chargers managed to trigger 28V voltage, leading to higher power output.

Looking at the bar chart, several PD3.1 chargers reached over 126W, with the highest being 134.8W. Other third-party chargers also achieved their maximum supported PD fast-charging power, demonstrating excellent compatibility overall.
Power Banks
Finally, let’s look at power banks.

Using the high-performance Anker 737 power bank, we measured 28.86V 4.92A 137.02W, slightly lower than the original charger.

Next, we tested the ZMI No.20 power bank, which delivered 19.88V 4.47A 88.82W.

Most power banks successfully triggered their supported maximum charging voltage, with most operating at 20V. PD3.1-supported power banks were able to reach 28V voltage.

From the bar chart, we can see that MacBook Pro can reach its full 140W charging speed when paired with PD3.1-supported power banks. Other power banks also delivered their rated PD fast-charging limits.
Summary of ChargerLAB
In summary, the new MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) exhibits excellent compatibility with both Apple and third-party charging devices. The Apple 140W charger delivers 139W in real-world tests, while other Apple chargers also perform near their rated power limits.
Among third-party chargers, UGREEN 160W and other PD3.1-supported models can trigger 28V voltage and output 134.8W. Other mainstream PD chargers also provided stable power output close to their rated values. For power banks, models like Anker 737 delivered 137W, coming close to full-speed charging.
Overall, whether using original Apple accessories or third-party charging devices, the MacBook Pro fully utilizes its fast-charging potential, demonstrating strong and reliable compatibility.
