Brand New Apple 70W GaN Charger - ChargerLAB Compatibility 100
Introduction
---------------------------------------------------------------
Several days ago, Apple unveiled the 15-inch MacBook Air and introduced a brand new 70W USB-C power adapter specifically designed for this large MacBook Air.
We got our hands on this charger today and tested it for charging compatibility with 100 devices. Let's see if it can pass this test.
To give a quick overview, this new power adapter is even smaller compared to the previous 67W version. It maintains the classic foldable plug design, making it convenient to carry and store. Apple recommends pairing it with the all-new 15-inch MacBook Air.
Charging Compatibility Test
First, let's take a look at the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S23+. The ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C measured a power output of 23W, successfully triggering the PD3.0 fast charging protocol.
Next up is Apple's own product, which can also trigger PD3.0 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max, with a slightly higher power output of 26W.
Lastly, for the 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max, it reaches an impressive 69.12W, with zero false advertising.

Mobile Phones
Next, we'll conduct a comprehensive compatibility test, starting with mobile phones.
When we summarize the measured data, which is a lot, most of the tested models can trigger 9V with currents ranging around 2A.
Creating a bar chart, the first place unsurprisingly goes to the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 26.28W, while the Sony XZ Premium comes in last with 7.09W. Apart from all iPhones and Red Magic phones that support relatively high-power PD fast charging protocols, most models are around 15W.

Game Consoles
Moving on to game consoles, three models trigger 15V and 20V, respectively.
In this category, AYANEO AIR takes a commanding lead with 30.4W, while the Nintendo Switch performs the worst with 9.61W in TV mode, even lower than its handheld mode's power. However, this result is within the normal power range for TV mode and successfully activates it.

Wearable Devices
Following that, we have wearable devices, where the voltage is similar for all four devices, while the current stays within 1A.
As you can see, the Apple Watch Ultra's charging power is significantly higher than the other three devices, at 5.17W, which is expected given its high price tag of $799. The rest of the devices are around 2W.

Tablets
Next, we have the tablets. All Apple tablets trigger 15V, while Android tablets, on the other hand, trigger at 5V and 9V, showing a significant difference.
The bar chart clearly demonstrates the difference, with all iPads, except for the mini 6, reaching around 25W. In contrast, the two Android tablets don't exceed 15W, with the Redmi Pad having a mere 9.05W.

Laptops
Last but not least, the laptops, the intended category for this power adapter. All eight models tested can trigger 20V, with most currents ranging around 3A.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max takes the lead with a slight advantage of 0.03W, specifically at 68.21W. On the other end, the non-Apple product, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, has a power output of 41.01W. Apple laptops achieve power outputs of 60W and above, indicating that overall, this power adapter provides the best charging experience when used with their own products.

Summary of ChargerLAB
Starting with compatibility, extensive testing with 76 mobile phone models revealed no instances of interrupted charging or power output lower than 5W. As for game consoles, it performed reliably, enabling TV mode activation for the Nintendo Switch. When paired with laptops, it delivered impressive power, with both 16-inch MacBook Pro models reaching approximately 68W, validating its claims with zero signs of misleading advertising.
As for dimensions, it outshines its predecessor, the 67W version, by offering a significantly smaller form factor, marking a remarkable advancement.
Overall, this power adapter is a perfect match for all Apple devices, delivering optimal performance and surpassing the capabilities of the similarly priced 67W version.
