BMW Launches New Original Car Charger (PD2.0 Fast Charging)
ChargerLAB has found that BMW has upgraded its original car charger from the old 5V version years ago to the new fast-charging version. Let's take a look.
The BMW original car charger is packaged in a colorful gift box with the BMW logo in the upper right corner. The package includes instructions and the car charger.
This is the old BMW original car charger, very mini, with handles. But it doesn't support fast charging, with only 5V charging output.
Let's take a look at the new BMW original car charger, which is completely different from the old one. It is made of PC flame retardant plastic with a frosted surface and a silver metal casing.
Here is the BMW logo on the metal part.
The negative pogo pin on the side is like a round ball, making it not slide out when driving. The positive pogo pin is designed to facilitate insertion into the cigarette lighter port.
It has one USB-A and one USB-C port with the LED indicator in the receptacle. The internal dual independent circuit supports dual simultaneous fast charging with a maximum output power of 18W + 18W.
The POWER-Z KT002 USB Tester shows that the USB-C port supports three fixed PDOs of 5V2.33A / 9V2.15A / 12V1.51A with the PD2.0 fast charging protocol.
In addition to the USB PD2.0, both ports support QC3.0, QC2.0, FCP and other fast charging protocols.
Summary of ChargerLAB
Compared to the old one, the new BMW original car charger supports PD fast charging and provides three types to choose from: single USB-A, dual USB-A and dual USB-A + USB-C. It also supports dual simultaneous fast charging with a maximum output power of 18W + 18W.
