Apple iPhone 16 Charging Test - ChargerLAB Compatibility 100
Introduction
Compared to the iPhone 15, which uses the older A16 Bionic chip, this year’s standard model, the iPhone 16, is equipped with the latest A18 chip from the same series as the Pro models. This upgrade brings a significant performance boost, along with exceptional energy efficiency, and improved battery life. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the iPhone 16’s charging performance.
Charging Compatibility Test
Next, ChargerLAB will conduct a comprehensive test on the compatibility of the iPhone 16, evaluating its performance with a selection of more than 100 charging devices. These devices include Apple chargers, third-party chargers, and power banks, aiming to cover the majority of users' charging scenarios.
Apple Chargers
Let’s start by testing the compatibility of Apple’s original braided charging cables with their chargers. Additionally, to ensure sustained high power output, we activated the phone's camera during the testing.
Then, let's use the 140W (model: A2452) charger to start the test, ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C measure that it can output 14.70V 1.59A 23.32W of power.
Testing Apple’s chargers across various power levels, we found that the iPhone 16 maintains a charging power of approximately 23W. Notably, all official chargers rated above 29W triggered the 15V voltage value, marking a key difference between the iPhone 16 and last year’s iPhone 15 series.
A bar chart of the charging power results reveals that, aside from the charger’s maximum power output, the iPhone 16 consistently charges at around 23W.
Third-Party Chargers
Due to the high price of Apple’s official chargers, many consumers turn to third-party options. So the iPhone 16’s compatibility with third-party chargers becomes an important factor.
First, let’s look at the performance of the HuntKey 100W charger. It provided the iPhone 16 with 14.70V 1.58A, or 23.24W of power.
After reviewing third-party chargers paired with Apple’s dual USB-C charging cable, we observed minimal variations in charging power for the iPhone 16.
A bar chart of third-party charger power output shows that the iPhone 16 charges at approximately 23-24W, with most other third-party 20W PD chargers reaching a steady 19W. Overall, compatibility with third-party chargers is excellent.
Power Banks
For power banks, the Anker GaNPrime 65W (737) charged the iPhone 16 at 14.83V 1.56A 23.09W.
Summarizing the test results in a table, we observed that all tested power banks provided between 19-24W of charging power to the iPhone 16, with no compatibility issues.
A bar chart of the data clearly shows the power distribution across the tested power banks, with the Samsung 1000mAh 25W power bank providing the highest output at 23.48W.
Summary of ChargerLAB
In summary, the iPhone 16 demonstrates excellent charging compatibility. Both Apple and third-party chargers deliver a reliable charging experience. For users seeking faster charging, a 35W or higher-rated charger—whether official or third-party—is a great choice and can meet the needs for a quick charge effectively.
