AMC latest 90W GaN charger can juice your MacBook Pro and iPhone at the same time
Recently, AMC Technology has released the world’s first 90W 2C1A GaN PD charger. Thanks to latest development in GaN technology, this charger has achieved a major breakthrough in power density.
AMC latest 90W GaN charger adopts a sleek pure white shell made with the finest polycarbonate. The surface of the main body part of the shell has a subtle matte feel; the other part of the shell is painted with bright surface paint. As a charger for travellers, AMC Technology’s 90W GaN charger is small, compact, and deployed foldable pin design. AMC Technology did a good job to balance portability, size and power. The output end is equipped with 2 type-C 1 USB-A interfaces, which can meet the charging needs of three electronic devices at the same time. Out of the three ports, the two USB-C ports of the adapter support an output of 90W (20V 4.5A) under single port loading – this can perfectly replace Apple’s latest stock chargers at 96W and 87W, and improving user experience drastically with multiple ports. Besides the two USB-C ports, the USB-A port provides excellent support for legacy devices.
When compared with Apple’s 87W original charger, the AMC 90W GaN charger offers 3 charging ports, but also reduces volume by about 1/3. In terms of power density, the Apple stock 87W charger is about 0.477W/cm3 , and measured at 80mm*80mm*28.5mm. On the other hand, the power density of AMC 90W GaN charger is 0.878w/cm3 , and measured at 58mm*57mm*31mm. The power density of AMC 90W GaN charger is almost doubled than that of Apple’s 87W fast charger.
The increase in power density of the AMC 90W GaN charger is due to the built-in2nd generation GaN chip from Navitas. We learned that this is the first product to deploy this second generation of GaN chip. When compared with the first generation of GaN chips, the newer one achieves higher power density and lower thermal performance. Even when you compare it to the several mainstream 65W multi-port GaN chargers on the market, the power density of the AMC Technology 90w GaN charger is still one of the highest in class.
The weight of this adapter is 168.6 grams, which is equivalent to the weight of an iPhone Xs.
Manufacturer: Shenzhen AMC Technology Co., Ltd. has passed CCC certification.
When we used the ChargerLAB POWER-Z KT001 to detect the charger USB-A interface output protocol, it showed that it supports Apple2.4A, DCP, Samsung 5V/2A, QC3.0, QC2.0, AFC, FCP,SCP and other protocols.
We found that the USB-C1 interface also supports Apple2.4A, DCP, Samsung 5V/2A, QC3.0,QC2.0, AFC, FCP, SCP and other protocols.
At the same time, USB-C1 also supports USB PD3.0 (PPS) fast charging protocol, with 5V/3A,9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/4.5A five sets of fixed voltage gear and 3.3-11A/5A PPS voltagerange.
The USB-C2 interface also supports Apple2.4A, DCP, Samsung 5V/2A, QC3.0, QC2.0, AFC, FCP,SCP and other protocols.
The PDO message shows that it is also consistent with the USB-C1 interface. They both support the USB PD3.0 (PPS) fast charging protocol, and have five fixed voltage ranges of 5V/3A, 9V/3A,12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/4.5A And 3.3-11A/5A PPS voltage range.
In dual-port output, the USB-C1 port automatically reduces the power to 60W, with 5V/3A,9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/3A and 3.3-11A/3A outputs; the USB-C2 interface alsoautomatically reduces the power The power is 30W, with 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2.5A, 15V/2A,20V/1.5A and 3.3-11A/2.5A output.
When we used AMC 90W GaN charger to power a 100W mobile power supply, the measured voltage is 19.6V, and the current is 4.53A, and the charging power was recorded at about 89W.When two USB-C ports are used to charge two devices at the same time, one of the devices get 60W of charging power and the other device gets 30W of power. As this charger can solve theneeds of charging laptops and tablets at the same time, we can conclude that it is extremely practical.
Summary:
Undoubtedly, the market for GaN charger is rapidly emerging. A group of GaNmulti-port fast chargers, represented by 65W, is rapidly gaining popularity among consumers. With the users’ demands for higher power, smaller volume, multi-interface, and multi-protocol, and we believe that the 100W-level high-power GaN chargers will attract more and more attention from consumers, especially for MacBook users. In contrast, in the high-power GaN fast charge market, existing 100W GaN fast chargers are quite rare. Products that have actually passed the CCC certification and are listed on the domestic market are non-existent. As a fast-charge manufacturer, AMC Technology took the opportunity to pioneer the 90W 2C1A GaN charger. This has created favorable ODM and OEM opportunities for brand customers that wanted to fill theempty void of this market segment. At the moment, the product is already CCC certified and in the progress of UL, CE application.
