A Shot Above | Xiaomi 13 Ultra Launch Event
On April 18th, Xiaomi released its annual image flagship phone, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. It features a Leica "quad-camera" image unit with a variable aperture and is equipped with a second-generation Snapdragon 8 processor. Remarkably, as a top-of-the-line flagship phone with limited space, it has also upgraded its fast charging performance, with a 5000mAh large battery and 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra features an integrated metal body frame with an IP68 protection rating. Its back adopts a continuous streamlined design, and the bottom of the camera area has a certain projection that echoes the classic Leica camera design. The back is covered with technology nano-leather material, which not only resists dirt and fingerprints but also brings a texture similar to camera leather decoration. Three colors are available: black, white, and olive green.
As the top-of-the-line image flagship phone, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra features a Leica quad-camera image unit, including the new generation Summicron lens co-developed with Leica. All four cameras have high specifications, wide aperture throughout the focus range, and night vision capabilities, creating a Leica optical image experience.
Specifically, the main camera has an equivalent focal length of 23mm and uses a variable aperture technology with f/1.9 and f/4.0 apertures that balance optical depth of field and light input, while supporting super optical stabilization. The telephoto camera has an equivalent focal length of 75mm, 3.2x optical zoom, f/1.8 large aperture, and supports optical stabilization. The ultra-telephoto camera has an equivalent focal length of 120mm, 5x optical zoom, f/3.0 aperture, and supports optical stabilization. And the ultra-wide-angle camera has an equivalent focal length of 12mm, f/1.8 large aperture, and supports 5cm super macro.
All camera sensors of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra use Sony high-quality sensors, with the main camera using the IMX989 one-inch sensor, and the ultra-wide-angle, telephoto, and ultra-telephoto three sub-cameras all using the IMX858 sensor. The four sensors have consistent full-pixel focusing, DOL-HDR technology, LN2 noise reduction technology, and 50 million pixels.
It uses a 6.73-inch four-curved screen, which is a 2K LTPO screen jointly developed by Xiaomi and CSOT. The screen uses the latest generation of C7 luminous materials, with a resolution of 3200x1400 and provides a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The peak brightness is as high as 2600nit, and it supports DC plus 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with the second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, UFS4.0, and LPDDR5X memory, which are currently standard configurations for flagship phones. It's worth mentioning that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra uses the Mi IceLoop ring-shaped cold pump technology to make the gas-liquid form a smooth circulation unidirectional heat-conducting circuit. Under the same area, its heat transfer capacity is three times that of traditional VC, making it easy to handle large games and high-definition video recording.
In terms of data transfer specifications, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra finally uses the long-absent USB3.2 high-speed specification. The transfer rate is 5Gbps, which is 10 times the common USB2.0 transfer speed and can save a lot of time backing up large files. In addition, the high-speed port also means the possibility of supporting more actions such as video casting and docking.
For battery life, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra uses a single-cell scheme with higher energy utilization efficiency, a high energy density battery with a full battery voltage of 4.48V, a capacity of 5000mAh, and a battery life of up to 1.34 days.
As for fast charging, due to the limited internal space of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the general fast charging performance usually chooses a more moderate specification. For example, the previous two Xiaomi image flagship phones, Xiaomi 11 Ultra and Xiaomi 12 Ultra, only had 67W wired fast charging. However, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra's wired fast charging uses the Xiaomi P2 charging chip and the surge G1 battery management chip, and has upgraded the power to 90W. Charging to 50% takes only 11 minutes, and 100% takes 34 minutes, the charging speed is significantly faster.
The wireless charging has reached 50W. Paired with the Xiaomi 50W wireless charging stand pro, it only takes 49 minutes to charge to 100%. Its speed is even faster than some wired fast charging of other phones.
In addition, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra added an emergency battery mode. When the battery is below 1%, this mode automatically starts, providing 60 minutes of standby time and 12 minutes of phone call time to facilitate users to find charging devices at the last minute.
Price
As of now, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is exclusively available in China and the prices mentioned will only serve as a reference point for customers.
