On March 27, Huawei held a conference in Paris to release the new Huawei P20 series: Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Pro, and Huawei Mate RS Porsche. The Huawei Mate RS Porsche will be the first Huawei phone that can support wireless charging, better yet, 10W wireless fast charging. Richard Yu, Huawei’s current president, claimed that theMate RS’ wireless charging speed is faster than iPhone X by 80%.
All the details regarding the Mate RS will be release by the end of March. However, as early as December24th , we have learned that the new Huawei phone will adopt the US IDT wireless charging scheme; which is widely used in Samsung phones.
Unfortunately, not the entire P20 series will support wireless charging. The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro doesn’t seem to support wireless charging. In order to confirm this, we went to the source and asked one of their distributors. They have confirmed that only the Huawei Mate RS Porsche has wireless charging capabilities. However, we did also hear that Huawei will start developing wireless charging accessories.
One of our speculated reasons to why Huawei only adopted wireless charging technology for the Mate RS is because they are still uncertain about the future of wireless charging. But, we believe that with the development the Mate RS, along with their wireless charging accessories, Huawei’s future series will fully embrace wireless charging.
